Summer 2009 Bulletin

CLAIMS FOR EXTRA FUNDS FOR GROUPS UNDER MEMO 8/2008

The Board of Directors has been delighted by the overwhelming response to the offer of extra funding for Groups based on a reimbursement of 50% of their Room Hire costs. However, the response has been so great that the amount included in the 2009 Budget for the whole year is now exhausted (with a £100 excess).

At the Board of Directors meeting on 11 June it was decided that new applications will be reviewed in September 2009 as part of an overall financial review. If sufficient funds are available, then the applications will be considered. The Board deeply regrets the necessity for this to happen and does recognise that many groups have benefitted hugely from this additional financial support. If the above decision causes financial difficulties, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Richard Hornsby on 020 8469 9196. We will of course, provide a further update after the financial review in September 2009.

Meanwhile, claims received at Fellowship Office will be held in a 'pending file' until September.

TRAVEL INSURANCE – OUTINGS AND DAY TRIPS

Accompanying this Bulletin is Memo 1/2009 outlining details of insurance that has been negotiated by the Civil Service Insurance Society in response to requests for some low-cost insurance cover for outings and day trips.

MOTOR MILEAGE RATES 2009-2010

The tax-free rates as approved by H M Revenue & Customs are unchanged for the 2009-2010 year at 40p per mile plus 5p per mile for each CSRF passenger; the rates for use of motor cycles and bicycles are 24p and 20p respectively.

GRANTS AVAILABLE

We have recently heard of a Group that was successful for the second time in two years at getting a grant from their local council so I am repeating a paragraph that was included in a Bulletin last year:

“Successful applications for local lottery and council grants
One way of obtaining funds is by applying for local lottery or council funds and I am aware of a number of groups who have successfully done so. Some have received several thousand pounds, so it’s worth applying. But the application forms can be quite daunting and time consuming. What I would like to ask those groups who were successful is to consider sending a copy of their application forms to Fellowship Office so that we can assist groups who want to apply for grants. No guarantees of success, but it is worth groups trying!”

Sometimes applicants are required to include a copy of their charity’s constitution and we at Fellowship Office will be pleased to supply it or any other documentation that is needed – just ask!
