Volunteer

Why volunteer

You really can make a big difference.

With almost 500,000 people across the UK eligible to benefit from our help and activities we are always in need of more volunteers.
The CSRF receives valuable grants-in-aid from the Home Civil Service and the Northern Ireland Civil Service, however without financial support and time donated by volunteers, the CSRF could not carry out its charitable activities which benefit and bring enjoyment to so many retired Civil Servants and their partners; people like Winnie Ince.

Winnie's Story
Winnie has been a member of her local Group for over 20 years. In 1985, after her husband died, a friend took her along to her local meeting in Colchester. Winnie has been a regular attendee ever since and says her favourite part of the meetings is the raffle. Winnie is taken to and from meetings by a local volunteer and Group Secretary, Bert Dawson. The local meeting is the only club which Winnie attends. She says she goes “to have fun and someone to talk to, it gets me out”;.

Helping people like Winnie maintain social contact and keep in touch with retired civil servants locally is at the heart of our activity. You can help us to help others by volunteering.

Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, explore new avenues and make the most of the skills and experience you have. CSRF volunteers, find the experience rewarding and all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses are paid.

Benefits of volunteering
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends, explore new avenues and make the most of the skills and experience you have gained.
Its also not only about helping others. We will do our best to ensure that you benefit from your new role as much as we do. Your role will enable you to:

- meet new people, get involved with meetings, outings and events
- make the most of your time and enjoy being part of a team
- gain valuable experience and learn new skills
- increase your confidence and feel positive
- feel a sense of satisfaction in knowing that you have helped others

Volunteering opportunities

We need volunteers to:

- help out in local groups
- visit retired civil servants, their widows/widowers and their dependants
- transport housebound or ill beneficiaries to group meetings
- deliver branch newsletters
- promote the CSRF within their workplace
- set up any fundraising projects

Boredom Breeds Mischief

Boredom Breeds Mischief is an ongoing campaign we’re running to try and get more people volunteering with the CSRF. It’s a simple concept: a lack of local CSRF activity could lead to retired civil servants getting up to all sorts of things instead of devoting their time to mischief and generally getting up to no good. Have a look at the clips to find out how!

We hope you enjoy the clips (be patient as they may take a bit of time to load) – if you did then tell your colleagues, family and friends to look at our website too. By doing so you will be helping the campaign to spread and reach more people, so please take a minute to support us in this way.

Has it got you thinking? Do you think you could give a few hours of your time a month to help provide CSRF support in your local area? For further information, please contact Yvonne Kutzer our Volunteer Co-ordinator on:
