New Civil Service Champion Elizabeth Gardiner CB, First Parliamentary Counsel and Permanent Secretary of the Government in Parliament Group in the Cabinet Office is appointed the Civil Service Champion for the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship (CSRF) We are delighted to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Gardiner CB as our new Civil Service Champion. The post of Champion is an important one, providing an important voice for the CSRF within the Civil Service by helping to raise awareness of our charitable services and how both serving and retired civil servants can support our work. Elizabeth Gardiner is the First Parliamentary Counsel and Permanent Secretary of the Government in Parliament Group in the Cabinet Office. She qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and then in England and Wales. She joined the Office of the Parliamentary Counsel as an Assistant Parliamentary Counsel in 1991, and has spent over 20 years as a legislative drafter working on a full range of legislative projects including working on consolidation and law reform projects at the Law Commission. The Office has recently been responsible for the drafting of the EU (Withdrawal) Act 2018. Elizabeth is keen to help the CSRF make a difference, “The CSRF offers a unique range of services to retired civil servants, their partners and dependents. They also understand and appreciate the challenges faced in later life and have adapted to deliver invaluable support in these areas and I am keen to help them raise their profile within today’s Civil Service as their Champion.” We are looking forward to working with her in the coming months.
