STOP PRESS....With effect from 1st January 2020 we will be implementing DBS checks for all befriending services volunteers as part of a review and update of our safeguarding policies & procedures....further updates will be posted on our volunteering pages in the coming months
We operate two national befriending services that offer companionship to our beneficiaries. Both schemes are run by volunteers who provide either a regular telephone call or home visit.

Phone Buddy

This provides a regular phone call to beneficiaries. Calls can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly and generally average from  30 minutes to an hour. But this is by mutual agreement between the volunteer and call recipient. We will do our best to try and match both parties according to the information we receive on the registration forms (e.g. interests, hobbies etc).

National Visitors Network

Supported by the Civil Service Insurance Society Charity Fund, this scheme provides home visits for those seeking some companionship. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and age and are motivated by their desire to make a real difference to those wanting some social contact.

All our volunteers come from all walks of life and age and are motivated by their desire to make a real difference to those wanting some social contact. Many are former or serving civil servants but we also recruit volunteers via local volunteer bureaux across the country.  So if you are interested in helping us to combat loneliness in later life and have some time to give, we’d love to hear from you. All our volunteers undergo training before being admitted on to our schemes and we do ask that volunteers are able to commit to at least 6 months of befriending. We also reimburse all reasonable travel expenses incurred as part of your volunteering.

If you’d like to know more information or have an informal chat with us about volunteering, we’d love to hear from you.  Email [email protected] or call us on 020 8691 7411
