New Friends Audrey is one of our beneficiaries who had an incredible career in the civil service working for the air force during the war. Audrey truly loved her job and still marvels now at how she ‘couldn’t have asked for a better job’. Following such an exciting career, Audrey wanted to join the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship because she enjoyed her work so much, why shouldn’t she also enjoy her retirement?! Audrey decided to try something new in her retirement, and she signed up to our Phone Buddy Service to be given a buddy who would call her at an arranged time. Not knowing what to expect, Audrey now says ‘I’m delighted with my phone buddy!’. Audrey’s buddy is named John, and Audrey adores hearing from him - they get on so well that they arrange to ‘talk regularly’. Audrey, (who must have so many incredible stories to share herself) so looks forward to speaking to John and hearing about his life and what he’s up to that he even arranged to come and visit her when he was in the area with his family. Through using our Phone Buddy Service, Audrey has made a friend that she considers to be ‘a super, super’ person. If you (like Audrey) would like to make a new friend and have a new visitor to look forward to, or if you would like to volunteer to become that new friend and have someone new to visit – then we would love to hear from you! You can call us on: 020 8691 7411 or if you prefer, you can send us an email at: [email protected] and we’ll do the rest. Volunteering or becoming a beneficiary really can be as easy as making a new friend – and no matter what age you are – a new friend makes a big difference.
