‘It’s just nice to see someone coming in the house’

The hardest part of living alone for most of us is getting used to the silence – for Peggy, it was missing the sight and sound of having someone else in the house: that comforting atmosphere of having company. Which is why when Peggy signed up to the Befriending services, she said that one of the best things about having a visitor is how much she ‘looks forward to seeing her’ and hearing all about her day when she comes over after work.

At the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship, we know how much that company means and the impact that it can have, which is why we offer all of our beneficiaries our two befriending services – the National Visitors Network for setting up a regular visitor who will make home visits to the beneficiaries house and our Phone Buddy Scheme which ensures that our beneficiaries can rely on a regular call from one of our volunteers and get to know them over time – which is how some of our most special friendships have happened.

Perhaps like Peggy you find yourself looking for new ways to make friends and get to know people in your retirement? To simply have a new visitor to look forward to or perhaps you’re looking to volunteer and become that new friend and have someone new to visit?

Either way we would love to hear from you. You can call us on: 020 8691 7411 or you can send us an email at: [email protected]
